Zoraima Cuello reaffirms that the government abandoned Ciudad Juan Bosch

Santo Domingo.– The vice president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Zoraima Cuello, reiterated this Monday her denunciation of the abandonment of the Ciudad Juan Bosch housing project by the government of Luis Abinader. This work, conceived during the administration of former president Danilo Medina, was proposed as a model of integral urban development for the benefit of working-class families. During a phone call to the radio program El Sol de la Mañana, Cuello responded to statements by the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who assured that upon assuming the government in 2020 they found a "collapsed" project.

Cuello rejected that version and assured that, at the end of the 2016-2020 period, the project already had 7,660 homes built and more than 4,000 units in an advanced stage of execution.

“Ese modelo fue diseñado no solo para ofrecer viviendas asequibles, sino para garantizar calidad de vida, con servicios complementarios y una planificación urbana ejemplar”,

afirmó.
The PLD leader cited the deterioration of Ciudad Juan Bosch as evidence of state abandonment. She explained that a recent visit, made with a PLD political commission, allowed them to verify the deterioration of basic services and the precariousness of the residents' lives. Among the main problems identified, he mentioned: constant blackouts, deficiency of public transport, scarcity of drinking water, increasing insecurity, accumulation of garbage and unsanitary conditions, collapsed stormwater drainage system and poor road infrastructure Cuello also lamented that many of the social facilities built during the PLD governments — such as care centers for the elderly, inclusive parks, police detachments, a hospital, and a fire station — are without maintenance or out of service.

“Ciudad Juan Bosch es hoy víctima de la falta de continuidad del Estado. El abandono se refleja en cada esquina: en el deterioro de las calles, en la oscuridad de las noches sin luz, en la incertidumbre de quienes compraron una vivienda con la esperanza de un futuro mejor”,

expresó.
Finally, Zoraima Cuello emphasized that "criticism must be accompanied by responsibility and data," and called on the authorities to seriously resume the management of this urban project, so as not to disappoint the thousands of families who still believe in the promise of Ciudad Juan Bosch as their definitive home.
