"With great sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, actress Gemma Cuervo, so loved and admired by all," the family has stated in a statement sent to the media.
Cuervo (Barcelona, 1934) has an extensive career in which she has been awarded numerous recognitions throughout her career, such as the Max de Honor Award 2021, the National Theater Award (1965) and the Silver Medal of the Community of Madrid (2018). For new generations, Cuervo is a familiar face due to her work in the series 'Aquí no hay quien viva' and became a generational icon in her role as Vicenta, forming one of the most brazen trios on television alongside Marisa and Concha, played by the also deceased Mariví Bilbao and Emma Penella. In recent years, after leaving the stage, Cuervo had reconnected with the new generations through social media with publications that reached millions of views, reciting verses or launching messages of encouragement during the coronavirus pandemic. The last thing he uploaded to the social network Instagram was two days before his death, with a writing to the "young people" to advise them on the affection between parents and children, who improvise "without an instruction manual". "Today, at my age, I look back and miss my parents. And at the same time I look at my children and silently wonder if I did well (...) Let's try to walk, even for a moment, in the other person's shoes. Life is too short not to do it," wrote the actress.
