A teacher from a Christian academy in the U.S. state of Alabama has been arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with a minor student.
Sarah Huggins Logan, 35, was charged with one count of participation in a sexual act while being an employee of a school, and more charges are expected to be filed against her. The investigation is being carried out amid concerns that other students may have also suffered sexual harassment by the teacher, local media reports here.
"On Friday, July 18, local authorities informed North River Christian Academy of the arrest of a former employee. We learned of the accusation earlier in the week and notified the appropriate state and local authorities. We have cooperated fully with the responsible agencies," the educational institution stated in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the authorities, the investigation began on July 16 after the minor's parents reported the alleged relationship. After conducting several interviews and gathering evidence, arrest warrants were issued for Huggins.
The age and identity of the affected student have not been revealed. Investigators urged anyone who may be linked to the case or has any information about it to contact the Sexual Assault Section of the Violent Crimes Unit, which is in charge of all sexual assault and abuse crimes in Tuscaloosa County.
