Berlin Zoo recycles Christmas trees and serves them to its animals

Berlin.- The panda bears, elephants, bison, deer and ibexes of the Berlin zoo had a special breakfast this Monday based on Christmas trees that were not sold this year and that, before ending up in the trash, ended up as a particular feast for these animals. Served to the pandas with apple and sweet potato as if it were Christmas decoration, these Asian plantigrades from the Berlin zoo ate and frolicked next to several of the Christmas trees served as food and morning attraction. In a completely snow-covered facility of the Berlin Zoo, the dean of Germany's zoos and the one who claims a greater variety of animals from the world, the pandas left the trees in question without sweet potatoes or apples in a matter of minutes while they rubbed against the trees.

The Berlin Zoo has been organizing these breakfasts since eight years ago after Christmas, in which it acquires dozens of unsold Christmas trees in an action that, according to Philine Hachmeister, confirmed to EFE, has a lot of "recycling".

"Before the trees end up in the trash, we make our animals happy with them," Hachmeister pointed out.

This year, the big news was that the elephant family at the Berlin Zoo received this breakfast of conifers, trees in front of which the pachyderms were, above all, curious, although they preferred as food the usual vegetables they usually eat.
