Mexico celebrates being the second tourist destination in America with 45 million visits

Mexico recorded 86.4 million international visitors in 2024, a 15.5% increase compared to 2023. Mexico City.- Mexico consolidated in 2024 as the second most visited tourist destination in the Americas with 45 million international arrivals, an increase of 7.4% compared to the previous year, reported the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) based on figures from UN Tourism. The United Nations agency placed Mexico only behind the United States, which registered 72.4 million visitors, and above Canada (19.9 million) and the Dominican Republic (8.5 million). The Mexican Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, emphasized that these results confirm the country's strategic position and global recognition of its cultural, natural, and gastronomic offerings.

afirmó Rodríguez.
The official explained that the good performance continued during the first half of 2025, when 23.4 million international tourists arrived, which meant an increase of 7.3% compared to the same period of 2024 and exceeded the total number of visitors that Canada received throughout last year.

Foreign exchange earnings reached $18,680.8 million, a growth of 6.3% compared to 2024 and 43.1% compared to 2019. Among them, 23.2 million were tourists who entered by air, with an average spending of $1,167, that is, 3.6% more than in 2023.

señaló la titular de Sectur.
