Three people die in a small plane crash that was combating the screwworm in Mexico

Mexico City.- Three people died in a plane crash while participating in efforts to control the screwworm in livestock on the border of Mexico with Guatemala, reported this Friday the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), Julio Berdegué.

The victims were identified by the official on their social media as Carlos Eduardo Monroy and Byron Eduardo Morán, pilots of Guatemalan nationality, and Lucio Alberto Roblero, a Mexican agricultural engineer.

Secretary Berdegué expressed his condolences through social media and highlighted the commitment of the three workers in the defense of national livestock farming.

“Lucio, a Mexican agricultural engineer; Carlos and Byron, Guatemalan pilots, bravely fulfilled their duty,” the official wrote on his X account.

“We will always be grateful for your dedication and sacrifice,” he added.

The accident occurred while they were flying over an area near the Mexican border city of Tapachula, in the state of Chiapas, as part of the health actions to eradicate the screwworm of livestock in the region.

“We regret the passing of Carlos Eduardo Monroy, Byron Eduardo Moran, and Lucio Alberto Roblero, who, committed to their work to combat the screwworm plague in livestock, suffered an accident aboard a small plane in the Tapachula, Chiapas area,” reads their X post.

So far, Sader has not issued official information on the causes of the accident or the condition of the aircraft used.
