Ankara.- The United States attack against Iranian nuclear facilities this morning carries the risk of turning a regional dispute into a conflict of global dimensions, the Turkish Foreign Ministry pointed out this Sunday.

"Turkey has warned against the risk of Israel's attacks expanding the conflict and destabilizing the region. Today's US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities raises this risk to the highest level," says a statement from the Ministry.

"Turkey is deeply concerned about the likely results of the attack. What happened could take a regional dispute to a planetary level. We do not want this catastrophic scenario to become a reality," he underlines.

The statement calls on "all sides to act responsibly, reciprocally end attacks, and avoid any step that opens the door to more destruction and deaths". "The only solution to the dispute over Iran's nuclear program is negotiation," the text assures, calling on the international community to "make efforts for both sides to find a diplomatic solution." The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, met yesterday in Istanbul with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, who is participating in the 51st summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which has been held since yesterday in this city. He promised his interlocutor that Ankara would do everything possible to facilitate a negotiation process to open the way for meetings between Iran and the United States, whether at a technical level or between their leaders, a position reiterated in today's ministerial statement.
