The sanction was announced this Wednesday by Major League Baseball and also includes a financial fine whose amount was not disclosed.
Detroit manager A. J. Hinch also received a one-game suspension and a financial penalty, a punishment he will serve immediately.
The incident occurred in the fourth inning of the game, after Valdez allowed two consecutive home runs. After hitting Story with a pitch, both teams left the benches, generating moments of tension on the field, although without physical confrontations.
The Dominican lefty decided to appeal the suspension, so he can continue to be active while the disciplinary review process by MLB is completed.
Valdez is going through his first season with Detroit and has been one of the main pieces of the team's rotation amid the injuries affecting the team's pitching staff.
