- 1802. French troops under the command of General F. M. Kerverseau formally took possession of the Spanish part of the island, initiating the period known as the "Era of France", which extends until 1809.
- 1854. The Constitution forced by General Pedro Santana is promulgated, in which the Ministry of Agriculture was instituted, with the name of Secretariat of State of Interior, Police and Agriculture.
- 1864. The chargé d'affaires of Spain before the Venezuelan government, José Antonio López Cevallos, shows his concern about the presence of commissioners from the Dominican restoration sector, seeking help for their cause against Spain.
- 1925. The remains of the educator Eugenio María de Hostos, who was the creator of the Normal School in 1879, are exhumed.
- 1948. The Executive Power creates in the National Police, by decree 4969, the General Headquarters, based in Santo Domingo, the Transit Service detachments, the Teaching Center, general headquarters of detachments, as well as that of detachments and posts.
- 1978. Monsignor Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez receives Episcopal Consecration and takes possession as Bishop of the Diocese of San Francisco de Macorís.
- 2015. The Dominican Government, through Foreign Minister Andrés Navarro, warns that Haiti "overflows" relations between both nations and warns that "patience has a limit", when condemning the "unacceptable" occupation of the Dominican consulate in Port-au-Prince, by groups of protesters.
- 2016. The president and candidate for re-election, Danilo Medina, defines his government work as "the greatest social revolution in the history" of the Dominican Republic, during a political support act by retired General José Miguel Soto Jiménez.
- 2018. The Ministry of Defense announced the reinforcement of security in the 391 kilometers that separate RD and Haiti, through the use of electronic devices such as drones and video surveillance cameras.
- 2019. The opposition Modern Revolutionary Party deposits before the Attorney General a "Complaint for Investigation and subsequent formal accusation" against the ruling Dominican Liberation Party, for Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, based on the testimonies of several of the former officials involved in the bribes of the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

- 2018. China's ruling Communist Party proposes to eliminate the limit on consecutive terms for the presidency, which appears to lay the groundwork for party leader Xi Jinping to hold the post of president beyond 2023.
- - The two Koreas once again stage their "Olympic idyll" during the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Games, within the framework of which the North Korean regime expressed its willingness to dialogue with the United States.
- 2019. The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, points out that he "does not recognize" the "acts" and "institutions" created by the new Constitution in Cuba, which was voted two days earlier in a referendum by the inhabitants of the island.

- 1943: George Harrison, British-English singer-songwriter and guitarist (d. 2001), member of the band The Beatles.
- 2007: Yang Shuncheng, Chinese synchronized swimmer.
2021: Carlota Salote Mafileʻo Pilolevu Tukuʻaho, Tongan aristocrat («princess»), member of the «royal family» of the island of Tonga.

- 1601: Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex, is executed for conspiracy against Elizabeth I.
- 1869: Pedro Molina Peña, leader of the Restoration, and maternal grandfather of the tyrant Rafael L. Trujillo Molina.
- 1971. Died in Caracas, Venezuela, the lawyer, anti-Trujillista and writer Luis F. Mejía, author of the work De Lilís a Trujillo.
- 2020. Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who was the autocratic face of stability in the Middle East for almost 30 years. He was ousted from power in one of the uprisings of the so-called 'Arab Spring'.
