COE keeps 8 provinces and the National District on red alert due to storm Melissa

Santo Domingo. - The Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains 08 provinces and the National District on red alert, increases 13 on yellow and maintains 03 on green, due to the fact that Tropical Storm Melissa, No. 13 of this 2025 Hurricane Season, was located approximately 485 kilometers southwest of Port-au-Prince (Haiti). It is moving slowly west/northwest at about 6 km/h and is expected to begin moving northwest and north/northwest and has maximum sustained winds of about 85 km/h with higher gusts and gradual strengthening is forecast in the following days. The provinces in red alert are: Barahona San Cristóbal Santo Domingo National District San José de Ocoa San Juan Azúa Peravia Pedernales

La Vega
La Romana
Hato Mayor
El Seibo
Samaná
San Pedro de Macorís
Monseñor Nouel
Sánchez Ramírez
La Altagracia
Elías Piña
Monte Plata
Independencia
Bahoruco In green alert are: María Trinidad Sánchez

Duarte In that sense, people are advised to refrain from crossing rivers, streams, and ravines that present high volumes of water in the provinces under alert. Similarly, on the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts, operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels are advised to remain in port due to wind, dangerous waves, as well as heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Similarly, on the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts, civil protection agencies are instructed to take all necessary preventive measures to preserve the lives of users of said coast, due to probable breakers and rip currents.
