Santo Domingo, R.D. – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, officially received the first booklet of the new Dominican electronic passport, marking the beginning of a stage of modernization and strengthening of security in the country's travel documents.
The act was led by the General Directorate of Passports (DGP) and symbolizes the formal beginning of the issuance of the electronic document, which complies with the highest international standards in identification and immigration control.
During the activity, the authorities highlighted that the new passport incorporates state-of-the-art technology, including a microchip with biometric data, which will allow greater protection of citizens' identity, reduction of fraud, and faster and safer verification at border control points.

President Abinader highlighted that this initiative is part of the Government's efforts to modernize public services and place the Dominican Republic at the level of global demands in terms of international mobility.
First Lady Raquel Arbaje, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez, as well as government officials and representatives of the General Directorate of Passports participated in the event, who agreed that this progress strengthens international confidence in the official documents issued by the Dominican State.
The introduction of the electronic passport represents a significant step towards the digital transformation of identification services, facilitating travel for Dominican citizens and reinforcing the country's image before the international community.
