Adopae mourns the death of Carlos Batista Matos

Santo Domingo, RD.– The Dominican Academy of Journalists of Art and Entertainment (Adopae) deeply regretted the passing of veteran journalist, writer, and communicator Carlos Batista Matos, which occurred this Monday in Santo Domingo.

According to information provided by his family, Batista Matos was found dead in his apartment in the El Vergel sector, in the National District, where he resided. The news was confirmed by his youngest daughter. Born on December 30, 1952, in Vicente Noble, Barahona province, Carlos Batista Matos developed an exemplary career, marked by his firm commitment to the dissemination of popular art and the strengthening of Dominican cultural identity. Throughout his professional life, he moved through important spaces in communication, establishing himself as one of the most respected voices in the entertainment field. At the time of his death, he produced and hosted the program "With the Famous", broadcast on Color Visión, channel 9. He was editor of the magazine La Tarde Alegre and of the entertainment section of the defunct evening newspaper Última Hora, from where he promoted critical analysis and the promotion of entertainment figures.

Also, he presided over the Bulevar de las Estrellas Foundation, Inc., an institution dedicated to recognizing outstanding personalities in national art and culture, leaving an institutional legacy of great value for the country. As an author, he made significant contributions with works focused on the study of merengue and other expressions of popular music, helping to document an essential part of the Dominican cultural heritage. His approach transcended the journalistic, incorporating a sociological vision that allowed understanding music as a reflection of social processes. In the public sphere, he served as an ambassador attached to the Chancellery in 2005, from where he also promoted Dominican culture on international stages. Adopae highlighted that his departure represents an irreparable loss for the journalistic and cultural community of the country. His legacy will remain as a reference for present and future generations. The guild extended its sincerest condolences to their family, friends, and colleagues, while honoring the memory of a professional whose life was dedicated to the service of Dominican culture.
