The Minister of Agriculture, Oliverio Espaillat, announced the implementation of a comprehensive plan to strengthen the national livestock sector with initiatives that include greater specialized technical support, qualified labor, and permanent monitoring of production.
The objective is to ensure the profitability of the milk and meat industry in the Dominican Republic.
Espaillat assured that during his management of the Ministry, "livestock farming will not die", highlighting that this project will be executed in coordination with the producers; with clear priorities, defined times and modern tools to increase the productivity of the dairy and meat subsectors.
The headline spoke in these terms when inaugurating the tenth version of the Expo Montaña 2026 fair, which will take place until next Sunday, February 1st, at kilometer three (3) of the Santiago Rodríguez-Mao highway, organized by the National Livestock Patronage together with the New Generation of Livestock of the province.
The minister emphasized that the northwest region produces nearly 50% of the milk consumed by the country, consolidating itself as a pillar of food security and rural development.
The inauguration also featured the participation of the provincial governor of Santiago Rodríguez, Glehany Azcona; congresswoman Juana Castillo; the agricultural advisor to the Executive Branch, Eric Rivero; Luis Felipe Checo (Luichi), president of the Nueva Generación Ganadera; and Luis María Sánchez Falette, director of the National Council for the Regulation and Promotion of the Dairy Industry (CONALECHE).
Also present were Berny Rodríguez, Northwest Regional Director of Agriculture, authorities from the agricultural sector, as well as livestock delegations from different provinces, producers, technicians and others linked to livestock farming.
