Santo Domingo. Invited by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ministry of Tourism, the only Mexican UFC champion, Alexa Grasso, concluded this Friday her visit to the Dominican capital with a clinic aimed at fifty mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes.
The activity took place before noon in the renovated Fencing Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, to whose protocol act, headed by the administrative vice minister of Miderec, Franklin de la Mota, attended athletes from the national federations of boxing, karate, taekwondo, fencing, Olympic wrestling, weightlifting and the MMA school "Team Mordan", the latter beneficiaries of the clinic.
Alexa Grasso conquered the flyweight title of the
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), becoming the only Mexican to achieve a championship in that MMA organization. She was accompanied in the instructions by her manager, Jordan Valdinocci, several times world kickboxing champion.
Grasso, who was received on Wednesday by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, at the National Palace, and by the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, at the City Hall, made her visit to the country through the lawyer Julio Cury.
Cury explained that, motivated by the admiration he feels for the Mexican fighter, he had an informal conversation with the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, and with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, who commissioned him to contact her and invite her to the country so that she could share her knowledge with Dominican MMA athletes.
Grasso thanked for the opportunity to visit the Dominican Republic and to share with athletes from different disciplines, whom he encouraged to take advantage of the training. He also highlighted that the country is "very beautiful".
In representation of the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, the Vice Minister Franklin de la Mota thanked Grasso and his manager for their presence, as well as the sports authorities present, including the presidents of the karate federations, José Luis Ramírez, and boxing, Rubén García, in addition to the commissioner of mixed martial arts, Fernando Daware.
De la Mota pointed out that it is the mission of the Government and Miderec to transform sports and strengthen disciplines such as MMA, which is growing in the country and has high-performance athletes.
He also praised Dr. Julio Cury's efforts in managing the visit of the Mexican UFC champion, considering that it will be of great benefit to Dominican athletes.
For over an hour, Alexa Grasso and Jordan Valdinocci gave instructions to about fifty young people of both sexes, mostly belonging to the "Team Mordan" school.
Among the attending personalities were the Vice Minister of Education, José Cancel, as well as Daniel Pérez and José Cruzeta.
