A serious traffic accident occurred on the road connecting to the municipality of Segovia, Antioquia, when a tourist bus carrying a school excursion plunged into a ravine in the El Chispero sector, near the town of Fraguas. The vehicle, which was carrying more than 40 people, mostly students from the Liceo antioqueño de Bello, veered off the road for reasons still under investigation.
So far, the preliminary balance leaves 16 dead and 19 injured, who have been transferred to the hospitals of Remedios and Segovia. Those affected are mainly young people who had been on an excursion in Tolú, Sucre, when the tragic event occurred.
