Santo Domingo. – The Dominican comedy Carlota la más Barrial not only conquered the audience in its long-awaited premiere, but has surprised the national film industry by staying three consecutive weekends in first place at the box office, consolidating itself as one of the most outstanding phenomena of the year for Dominican cinema.
The film is directed by Yoel Morales, with a screenplay by Carasaf Sánchez and Juan Alberto Quezada, and produced by Víctor Dumé, Leidy Peña and Francis Disla “El Indio”, under the production companies Dukesa Films and La Aldea Estudio.
It debuted in theaters on August 28th under the distribution of Caribbean Film Distribution. Since then, the theaters have reported full houses, and now, in its fourth week in theaters, the production is preparing to continue breaking records and expanding its impact on the Dominican public.
The production has been highlighted in the cinematographic field for its surprising performance at the box office, becoming a benchmark of success for Dominican cinema and demonstrating the massive support of the local public.

The film, starring Carasaf Sánchez in the role of Carlota, also features performances by Fausto Mata, La Materialista, Aquiles Correa, Diana Filpo, and Vakeró, among others. The plot follows Carlota, a woman with an iconic unibrow, a sharp tongue, and natural leadership, who confronts a dangerous criminal gang to protect her community in Villa Hermosa, a picturesque neighborhood in Santo Domingo.
Beyond urban humor, the film has been applauded for its message of solidarity and community belonging, becoming a reference for how comedy can also serve as a social mirror. The audience has highlighted the balance between laughter, music, and the authentic representation of the neighborhood spirit.
With the technical support of Francis Adamez (director of photography), Rosanna Batista (art direction), Wander Reynoso (original music), and Samuel Muñoz (sound design), the production achieved a visual and sound finish that highlights the Dominican identity with freshness.
Carlota la más Barrial continues in theaters and, after its sustained success, is shaping up to be one of the highest-grossing Dominican films of 2025, demonstrating that local stories have the power to convene and move the public.
