Customs Director highlights that trade with Haiti has grown by 30.2% in 2025

The Director General of Customs, Yayo Sanz Lovatón, highlighted the importance and commercial growth of Dajabón, as well as the strengthening of customs controls at that important border crossing, for national security and production.

The official revealed that only through the Dajabón border crossing, in the period January-September 2025, more than US$293.61 million have been exported, representing a growth of 22.12% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Those exports are composed of 37.0% cotton fabrics, 24.36% cotton t-shirts, and 13.53% cement.

While the imports made by Dajabón so far this year have been valued at US$11.93.

He also highlighted that the total trade with Haiti as of September 2025 amounted to US$882.69 million, for a growth of 30.2% compared to the US$677.88 million traded in the same period of 2024.

He explained that five years ago the average of our total monthly exports was about US$700 million per month, already in 2023 it averaged about US$1,200 million per month, and in the year 2025 the monthly average already exceeds US$1,300 million, a product of the Government's effort to increase exports.

"In the year 2024, the main economic sector of this country was not tourism; for the first time in more than 25 years, the main economic sector of this country was exports," indicated Sanz Lovatón, referring to the economic importance of logistics for the country.

Likewise, the head of Customs explained that this increase in trade has gone hand in hand with legal controls and stricter inspections thanks to the implementation of technology in the Customs of Dajabón, and to greater collaboration between the border institutions that converge in that and other border crossings.

That has resulted in more than 4.8 million rounds of ammunition retained, more than 178 million units of cigarettes seized, more than 600 weapons confiscated, more than 90 thousand units of alcoholic beverage bottles, and more than 6 million items that violated intellectual property retained.

In terms of security, he recalled that the DGA donated in March 2025 about 10 mobile surveillance units to the Armed Forces, which have strengthened surveillance along the entire border line.
