Defense and Presidency Ministers oversee border to reinforce security and development

Santo Domingo, R.D. – The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, carried out a supervisory tour of the border line together with the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and the general commander of the Army, Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez.

The day took place along the international highway that separates the Dominican Republic from Haiti, covering the section from Pedro Santana to Villa Anacaona. The objective was to verify on the ground the dynamics of coexistence between citizens of both countries and to verify the operations of the security agencies deployed, especially the units of the Dominican Republic Army, responsible for surveillance and territorial control. The high-value strategic tour allowed for the evaluation of operational, social, and commercial conditions in the border area, facilitating decisions aimed at strengthening the security, stability, and integral development of these communities.

Furthermore, the authorities followed up on initiatives aimed at improving trade dynamics and coexistence in the Tilori area, a key point for binational exchange. The Government reaffirmed its interest in promoting actions that foster the socioeconomic development of the border, ensuring a safe and stable environment. In that context, the Ministry of Defense highlighted the Armed Forces' commitment to the defense of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and support for public policies in favor of the population. The visit demonstrates the State's intention to maintain an active and permanent presence on the border, promoting a balance between security, development, and peaceful coexistence.
