DGM intercepts ambulance transporting undocumented Haitians in Dajabón

The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported this Friday that it intercepted an ambulance allegedly used for the irregular transfer of undocumented Haitian nationals in the province of Dajabón. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Public Ministry and the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), as part of intelligence and monitoring work carried out by immigration agents. According to the authorities, the vehicle's driver was identified as "Anderson Ramón Estévez Pacheco", who had been under investigation for several months for allegedly offering transportation to foreigners in irregular migratory status from the border area to different parts of the country.

The DGM explained that the ambulance, belonging to the cooperative COOPBUENO and of the brand Hyundai model CVX, was detected when it was picking up two Haitian citizens in front of the Haitian consulate, located on 27 de Febrero street in the border city. Subsequently, the vehicle was intercepted at the military checkpoint "El Rodeo" in the municipality of Partido, while traveling on the Dajabón-Santiago Rodríguez highway.

During the inspection, the authorities seized medical documents from Haiti and a health center in Santiago Rodríguez. According to statements made by the detained foreigners, both had paid nine thousand pesos to be transported. The ambulance, the driver, and the two Haitian nationals were transferred to the Dajabón Migration Processing Center, where they will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal purposes. The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reiterated that it will continue to strengthen intelligence work and immigration interdiction operations throughout the national territory, in compliance with the General Migration Law and respecting the fundamental rights of individuals.
