NBA star Kevin Durant agreed to a two-season, $90 million contract extension with the Houston Rockets, which could keep him on the team until the 2027-2028 season, US media reported on Sunday.
The agreement, initially revealed by ESPN and confirmed by Durant's business partner, Rich Kleiman, includes a player option for the second year, which will allow him to decide his future before the end of the agreement.
By completing both seasons, Durant would reach almost $600 million in accumulated earnings during his career on the court, a figure that could become an NBA historical record, depending on the length of LeBron James' career.

Durant, 36 years old, was eligible for an extension of up to $122 million, but opted for a smaller amount, a decision that gives the Rockets greater financial flexibility to make new signings and strengthen their squad for the future. The forward, a four-time scoring champion and Olympic gold medalist, joined Houston last summer, starting a new stage in his career with a franchise that is on the rise. The Rockets broke a five-year playoff drought last season, with a record of 52-30, under the direction of coach Ime Udoka. In search of more history Kevin Durant is eighth on the NBA's all-time scoring list, with 30,571 points, and has the possibility of moving up to fifth place this season. He is only 848 points away from Wilt Chamberlain, 989 from Dirk Nowitzki, and 1,721 from Michael Jordan. Last season, in his seventeenth campaign in the league, Durant averaged 26.6 points per game, maintaining his offensive consistency. In his career, the 6-foot-11-inch player records averages of 27.2 points and seven rebounds per game. With this renovation, the Rockets are betting on consolidating themselves as contenders in the Western Conference, while Durant seeks to continue expanding his legacy as one of the most prolific and dominant scorers in the history of professional basketball.“I see myself signing a contract extension. I can’t tell you exactly when it will happen, but I see it happening. Seeing the rapid progression of this franchise since the James Harden and Chris Paul era, and how Ime changed it so quickly, it felt organic and natural to enter the gym and be a Houston Rocket for the first time,” the player said during the team's media day.
