Man stabbed to death; found dead in front of Carrizal, Dajabón cemetery

Santiago. - A man was stabbed to death and his body found on Sunday morning in front of the cemetery of the community of Carrizal, in Dajabón, a fact that has caused consternation among family members and residents, who demand justice and the total clarification of the crime. The victim was identified as Ezequiel Contreras Mateo, 49 years old, who, according to versions from his relatives, was last seen the night before in a drinking establishment in the area, specifically at a bar owned by Haitians in the community. According to his family, Ezequiel left his motorcycle parked in front of the business and was allegedly taken from the place under false pretenses. Hours later, his body was found lifeless in a grassy area, near a Catholic church and in front of the cemetery.

"That wasn't an accident, they killed him. They took him away talking, as if nothing was going to happen, and then he appeared dead," denounced his brothers Miguel Contreras Mateo and Rodolfo Contreras, visibly affected by the tragedy. They indicated that along with the body, some personal belongings were found, including his cap and a small sum of money, which opens the possibility of a robbery; however, they clarified that so far the authorities have not confirmed the motive for the act. Family members also reported that a person was arrested in connection with the case and expressed their hope that the authorities will act firmly. "We don't wish anyone ill, but we want justice to be done," they stated. The homicide has generated concern among residents of Carrizal, in the municipality of Loma de Cabrera, who are demanding a greater police presence and measures to reinforce security in the area. The National Police and the Public Ministry are keeping open the investigations to clarify the circumstances in which the death of Ezequiel Contreras Mateo occurred and to establish responsibilities.
