Outrage in El Carril, Haina, over the death of a 10-year-old boy after a gate at a health center fell on him

Santo Domingo.– Consternation and indignation are what is felt in the community of El Carril, in Haina, after the tragic death of the 10-year-old boy Loanni Campuzano, who was hit by a rusty iron gate while trying to cross towards the diagnostic center of the area.

The incident has generated strong discontent among the residents, who claim that the gate had been damaged for months and that they alerted the authorities on multiple occasions about the danger it posed.

“The gate had been loose for a while and nobody did anything. Now a child loses his life because of that negligence,” denounced Juana López, a resident of the sector.

The minor's body was mourned and buried this Saturday in the cemetery of the Municipal District of El Carril, amidst displays of grief from family, friends, and neighbors. Although Loanni's relatives avoided speaking to the press, the community raised its voice to demand accountability.

“How can a door come off like that? That doesn't happen overnight. That had been damaged for a while and nobody did anything. This is a health center, sick people, pregnant women, children come here… and this is how they take care of the infrastructure?” demanded Alexander Fernández, visibly indignant.

Upon visiting the diagnostic center, the deterioration in several areas is noticeable, including the main gate, whose condition represents an evident danger to users.

Community members demand that local authorities and the Ministry of Public Health establish preventive maintenance protocols and periodic inspections in public infrastructure, especially in medical care centers and schools.

“Maintaining doors, windows, and structures should be a priority. We cannot wait for a tragedy to occur to act. Today it was a child… tomorrow who?”, questioned another resident who preferred not to reveal their name.

The community awaits an official response and sanctions for those responsible for the omission that took the life of little Loanni.
