Santiago.- An intense downpour recorded on the afternoon of this Sunday caused severe flooding in avenues and sectors of Santiago, leaving the Municipal Cemetery of Ingenio Arriba under water, where several niches and tombs were flooded, causing indignation and anguish among relatives of the deceased.
The rainfall, which began around 3:40 in the afternoon, generated a rapid accumulation of water that collapsed important roads such as 27 de Febrero Avenue and Circunvalación Sur Estrella Sadhalá, also affecting vulnerable areas where the rainwater drainage proved insufficient.
Vehicle traffic was seriously disrupted, with drivers trapped in the middle of streets turned into improvised currents, while residents tried to take shelter from the force of the water.

Sectors such as Mella I, San Lorenzo and La Gloria, in Santiago Oeste, as well as Hoyo de El Ciruelito, Hoya de Caimito, Ensanche Bermúdez and Ensanche Libertad, are among those most affected by the floods.
So far, the authorities of the Santiago City Hall have not offered an official response, amid growing questions about the failures in the drainage system which, once again, demonstrate the city's vulnerability to heavy rains.
