Residents of Los Mina value garbage collection as positive

By: Yerandi Santana

Santo Domingo Este. – Residents of the Los Mina sector expressed mixed opinions regarding the garbage collection service, during a tour conducted by De Último Minuto, where community members offered their impressions on the current situation of solid waste. Some of the interviewees stated that the garbage truck passes daily, which they consider positive for maintaining the cleanliness of the area. However, others consulted reported that, although the garbage is collected, on many occasions the trucks only remove a part of the waste, leaving bags accumulated in the streets, which causes sources of contamination and bad odors.

Another community member pointed out that part of the problem is due to people he identified as "vicious," who take out the trash outside of the established hours and spread it on the public road, worsening the situation. Faced with this, he recommended that the municipal authorities apply a firm hand against those who violate the rules, in order to guarantee greater order and cleanliness in the sector. Residents agreed on the need for greater supervision by the authorities and citizen awareness campaigns to achieve an effective and sustainable solution to the garbage problem in Los Mina.
