Santo Domingo. – A new Saharan dust cloud, the fifth so far this year, is already present over the Dominican Republic and will continue to affect the country until Friday afternoon, according to meteorologist Jean Suriel via his official X account (formerly Twitter). This air mass loaded with fine particles has direct effects on health and the environment. Suriel warned that it can generate an increase in respiratory, eye, and skin conditions, as well as cause a rise in the thermal sensation, making the heat feel even more intense.

The phenomenon also significantly limits the formation of rainfall, although isolated showers could occur in some areas of the northwest and the Central Mountain Range, due to remnants of tropical wave number 9. Authorities recommend that the population take precautions, especially people with pre-existing respiratory conditions, children, and the elderly. It is advised to avoid outdoor activities during the hours of greatest dust concentration, stay hydrated, and if necessary, wear masks to protect themselves from the dry and polluted air.
