Santiago recognizes 25 Exemplary Women alongside Raquel Peña

Santiago.- The Santiago City Council recognized this Friday 25 Exemplary Women for their outstanding career and contributions to social, professional and community development, in an act headed by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, held in the Juan Pablo Duarte hall of the municipal council, within the framework of the commemoration of International Women's Day.

The activity, organized by the Gender Commission of the Council of Aldermen, brought together local authorities, legislators, and representatives from different sectors of society, who highlighted the role women play in the growth and transformation of the country. During the event, Mayor Ulises Rodríguez highlighted that the recognition seeks to make visible the stories of effort, discipline, and commitment of women who have significantly contributed to the progress of society.

"Recognizing 25 exemplary women is recognizing stories of sacrifice, early mornings of effort, and goals achieved with perseverance. They are dreams that today become realities that positively impact our society," said the mayor. Among those honored was Vice President Raquel Peña, who thanked for the distinction and valued the role played by Dominican women in the different areas of national life. "Being here in Santiago, celebrating International Women's Day with so many valuable women, fills me with pride, but also with hope and commitment," said Peña. The vice president also highlighted the growth experienced by the city of Santiago and valued the municipal management headed by Mayor Ulises Rodríguez, noting that the development of the city requires leadership and committed teams to respond to the demands of a constantly expanding population. Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Mariana Moreno stated that the recognition constitutes an act of justice to the merit of women who have left their mark in different sectors, while Councilor Amarilis Baret, president of the Women's Commission of the Council of Councilors, indicated that the initiative seeks to highlight female leadership and its contribution to the development of the community. Among those honored are Gloria Ascona, Dilenia García, Hilda Domínguez, Melanie Rodríguez, Carmen Georgina Vélez Díaz, Yvette Ramírez, Petruska Muñoz, Elizabeth Burgos de Domínguez and María Magdalena Almánzar, distinguished for their contributions in areas such as health, community leadership, institutional management and social service. Also, Eladia “Tuti” Cordero, Mirna López, Teresa Morel Mora, Geanilda Vásquez, Altagracia Moreno, Andrea Suero, Luz Brito, Victoria Altagracia Martínez, Yanna Tavares and Olga María Novoa Fernández de Arocha, were recognized for their careers in education, communication, politics and community work.

The list also included Antonia Rodríguez, Arbaluz Pérez, Tuti Almonte and Mercedes Capellán, for their leadership in the business field, health, volunteering and social management, as well as a posthumous recognition to Adelia Gutiérrez for her legacy in the area of health. The activity was attended by the president of the Council of Councilors, Cholo D’ Óleo; the governor of Santiago, Rosa Santos; Senator Daniel Rivera; the deputies Dilenia Sosa and Dharuelly D’Aza; the director of CORAASAN, Andrés Cueto; the general secretary of the council Arismendi Dajer, as well as other authorities and invited personalities.
