The sector has 62,000 jobs and annual sales exceeding 24 million pesos
Santo Domingo, RD.– The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, led a meeting this Tuesday with representatives of private security companies, where the economic, social and institutional impact of the private security sector in the Dominican Republic was highlighted, as well as the growing leadership of women within that industry.
The activity, organized by the Dominican Association of Security Companies (Adesinc), brought together civil and military authorities, entrepreneurs, and representatives of the area of prevention and public order at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Santo Domingo hotel, during the discussion "The role of women in citizen security: leadership, challenges and opportunities". When offering the opening words, the president of Adesinc, Freddy González Estrada, stated that citizen security can no longer be based solely on traditional schemes, but on strategic intelligence, professionalization, and institutional coordination. In that sense, he highlighted the role played by women in strengthening security and prevention. The business leader also highlighted that the private security industry supports more than 62,000 formal jobs, generates annual sales exceeding 24 billion pesos, and contributes nearly 90 million hours of surveillance each year, consolidating itself as a key sector for the functioning of the economy and citizen protection. They advocate for legislation to strengthen the sector González Estrada considered urgent the approval of modern legislation to strengthen the technicalization of surveillance services and adapt the sector to new security challenges. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Fernández Onofre; the director of the Superintendency of Private Vigilance and Security, Major General Francisco Ovalle Pichardo; Ambassador Tony Raful, as well as representatives of security companies and actors linked to the prevention and public order system. During the day, the participants agreed on the need to continue strengthening cooperation between the authorities and the private sector to raise the standards of professionalization, prevention, and response to the challenges of citizen security in the country. ADESINC is a non-profit organization that brings together the main companies in the formal and organized private security sector of the country.
