The Spanish rugby 7 team finished eighth and last in the Cape Town (South Africa) tournament this Sunday, the second stage of the regular season of the World Series, at the end of a final day in which they lost against Great Britain (10-29) and Australia (17-24).
The British came out determined to make up for their three defeats of the previous day in the consolation trophy semi-final against a Spain without their two best players, since Pol Pla was the player discarded by Paco Hernández for this tournament and Manu Moreno was injured on Saturday.
Gabriel Rocarés opened the scoring in the first Spanish offensive, Matt Davidson equalized immediately and, with two minutes left until halftime, a temporary exclusion of Roberto Ponce, for not retreating ten meters to defend the quick throw-in from a penalty, decided the outcome of the match.

Davidson scored his second try near the right flag, and Spain, with the clock at zero, decided to attack while shorthanded, which led to the islanders recovering the ball after a tackle and the try that sealed the victory, scored by Charlton Kerr almost two minutes after the buzzer. The second half, with a tired and demoralized Spain, only served for Eduardo López to score a try thanks to a beautiful individual play and Great Britain stretched their lead to 10-29 with a third try by Matt Davidson and another by Marcus Kershaw in the last minute. Australia, which Spain had beaten the day before, was the opponent in the match to avoid the last place, which the 'Lions' occupied due to a bad first half in defense, in which Aden Ekanayake scored a brace and Jayden Blake, after Jeremey Trevithick's discount, widened the gap just before halftime (7-19). Eduardo López and Beau Morrison maintained the twelve-point difference with respective tries, Trevithick completed a double to put his team only one score away from forcing overtime (17-24) with a minute to go, but Jaime Manteca sent the kickoff directly out and prevented a final aerial contest.
