Taíno Cultural Center Casa del Cordón presents teaching guide teachers

Santo Domingo.– The Taíno Casa del Cordón Cultural Center, an initiative of the Banco Popular Dominicano, held a workshop for teachers from different educational levels, in which the teaching guide “Our first settlers” was presented, aimed at strengthening the teaching of Taíno history and identity in the classrooms. In the eminently practical meeting, teachers from public and private centers throughout the country learned about the guide's orientations, its historical and cultural value, the environmental context, ritual practices, and the formation of the Taíno society. Likewise, fundamental data was chronologically explained to understand the temporal and geographical location of the first settlers of the island. The goal is for teachers to be able to replicate the knowledge shared in this activity in their respective schools, which was led by the authors of the guide, academics María Isabel Martínez and Patricia Tatis.

The guide for teachers "Our First Settlers" accompanies the homonymous exhibition located in the cultural center, which features more than 350 pre-Hispanic pieces donated by the García Arévalo Foundation. With this resource, we seek to stimulate comprehensive and constructive learning processes that connect the richness of this collection with the contents of the Dominican school curriculum. This effort is part of the Taíno Casa del Cordón Cultural Center's commitment to promote identity, critical thinking, and cultural dialogue, highlighting education as an essential tool to strengthen knowledge and appreciation of the national heritage. The guide material is also available free of charge in digital format for all teachers in the country who wish to have it, accessible through the cultural center's website: www.casadelcordon.com. The center is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:30 in the morning to 6:30 in the evening. Its content and announcements can be followed on the social network Instagram, through the user @casadelcordon.
