Caracas.- The president of the National Assembly (AN, Parliament) of Venezuela, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, reported this Thursday that he established a work agenda for "mutual cooperation" after holding a meeting with representatives of the European Union (EU) in Caracas.
According to Rodríguez on Telegram, the meeting took place in the Federal Legislative Palace, the parliamentary headquarters, with the Deputy Director General for the Americas at the European External Action Service, Pelayo Castro Zuzuárregui; with the EU's chargé d'affaires in Venezuela, María Antonia Calvo Puerta; and Adriana Vázquez, head of the Division for South America.
"Within the framework of the ongoing dialogue, we established a work agenda for productive development," said the parliamentarian, without giving further details of this agenda.
Rodríguez also reaffirmed the "will" to advance on a "path of mutual cooperation" with the EU.
In his message, he shared several images of the meeting, which was also attended by the first vice president of Parliament, also a Chavista, Pedro Infante; and the Venezuelan Deputy Minister for North America and Europe, Oliver Blanco.
Meetings with the Government
On Wednesday, the
representatives of the European Union held meetings with the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, and the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez.
Venezolana de Televisión, the Venezuelan state channel, indicated that a joint work agenda was discussed in the meeting with the acting president to advance in "strategic areas towards a new stage of cordiality and productive relationship", without specifying further details.
Over the past few weeks, in parallel with these meetings, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has met with authorities from several EU countries, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Last February, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Kaja Kallas, announced that she will propose that the bloc's countries lift sanctions against Delcy Rodríguez, a measure proposed by Spain.
