UASD and Energy and Mines sign agreement to strengthen training and research in mining and energy

Santo Domingo.– The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the purpose of promoting academic training, scientific research and the generation of knowledge in strategic areas such as mining, hydrocarbons, nuclear energy and energy efficiency. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, and the rector of UASD, Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, during the celebration of the First Symposium on Applications of Nuclear Technology in the Dominican Republic, an event that promotes the peaceful and scientific use of this technology in the country. Both institutions committed to designing and updating undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education programs, as well as facilitating internships, technical advice, and the development of joint applied research projects in various areas of the energy and mining sector.

Minister Joel Santos highlighted that the alliance with UASD will allow to "train highly qualified human talent" in vital sectors for national economic development, underlining the need to deepen scientific and technical knowledge to face the challenges of the present and future.

"Only through a solid academic collaboration with institutions like UASD will we be able to move forward responsibly in sectors that are key to the sustainable development of the country," Santos expressed.

For his part, Rector Editrudis Beltrán valued the importance of the agreement as a decisive step in strengthening the academic offer of the state university, especially in fields with great social and economic impact.

“Este acuerdo reafirma el compromiso de la UASD con el desarrollo nacional desde el conocimiento. Nos permitirá ampliar nuestras capacidades formativas y científicas en áreas esenciales para un crecimiento sostenible”,

afirmó Beltrán.
The agreement also contemplates compliance with decree 158-23 on energy efficiency in public entities, the preservation of technical equipment and supplies, and the expansion of geological and energy databases nationwide.
