San Francisco de Macorís. - The leader of the Colectivo de Organizaciones Populares, José Mercado, assured that the call for a 24-hour strike is being met almost entirely in this municipality, highlighting the paralysis of transportation, commerce, and educational activities.
Mercado affirmed that, despite the militarization and what he described as a disinformation campaign by the authorities, the day has had broad support from the population.
He also denounced alleged acts of harassment against movement leaders, including police presence in popular sectors and surveillance in the homes of members of the collective.
He also indicated that several leaders had been arrested, so he demanded their release and held the authorities responsible for any situation that might befall them.
