Victim's family questions "no grounds" ruling in favor of Jean Pumarol and demands justice

Santo Domingo. – The family of Yolanda Handal Abugabir, 70 years old, expressed their rejection of the decision of Judge Deiby Timoteo Peguero, who issued a dismissal in favor of Jean Andrés Pumarol Fernández, accused of a knife attack that occurred in the Naco neighborhood that left one person dead and five injured.

Through a public letter, Nancy Handal de Mejía, sister of the victim, questioned the court ruling and demanded that the case not go unpunished.

“Doesn't my sister's life have value?”, she expressed, while describing the violence of the act, which occurred inside the victim's residence.

According to the testimony, Yolanda Handal Abugabir received multiple stab wounds in an attack that also caused the death of her pet and left five other people injured.

The court based its decision on the fact that the defendant had acted under a psychotic episode, which would prevent his criminal prosecution. However, the family maintains that this condition should not translate into the absence of legal consequences.
