Every March 26th, World Cervical Cancer Prevention Day is commemorated, a date that seeks to raise awareness among the population about the importance of prevention, timely diagnosis, and access to adequate treatments for this disease.
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women worldwide and is closely related to persistent infection with the Human Papillomavirus, a condition that can be prevented through vaccination and periodic medical checkups.
Health specialists emphasize that this disease can develop without presenting symptoms in its initial stages, which is why they recommend undergoing tests such as the Pap smear and the HPV test regularly, especially in women from the age of 21 or with an active sex life.
They also emphasize the importance of the HPV vaccine, which has proven to be an effective tool in significantly reducing the risk of developing this type of cancer.
