Santo Domingo.- The violent events that occur in Dominican homes with tragic outcomes keep the Catholic Church of the Dominican Republic in a state of alarm, which calls for reflection to avoid a passive attitude towards the events that are taking place.

In the editorial note of the National Catholic Weekly Camino with the title “Respect for Mom and Dad is sacred”, the local archdiocese questions whether we are losing our identity as good and respectful men and women of life.

“This sentence leads us to reflect on the cases of violence we are witnessing in Dominican homes, ending in tragedy where there are children who attack their parents and siblings,” they emphasize in the writing that will circulate in all parishes of the country starting June 1st of this year.

In that order, they emphasize that speaking about the social doctrine of the church, Pope Leo XIV has expressed that the objective of this is to learn how to face problems, which are always different, since each generation is new, with new challenges, new dreams and new projects.

"Today the reality is different and we must be careful to avoid getting used to seeing those events with a passive attitude," Camino points out.

They argue that the country needs to have families where the love of life is the oxygen we breathe and recalled the late Pope Francis, when he said that conflicts often arise between people due to overly long silences and unhealed selfishness. The writing ends by inviting us to take care of the country as there is still time to change the course of things.
