Jakarta.- At least 14 people have died and 4 remain missing due to a landslide on a stone quarry on the Indonesian island of Java, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
Rescue teams have found 14 bodies and are still searching for 4 missing people who were working in the quarry, located in the Cirebon district, in East Java province, when around 10:00 local time (3:00 GMT) on Friday they were surprised by the detachment of one of the walls.

Rescuers supported by heavy machinery were trying to find possible survivors among the rubble without success the day before, according to images provided to the press. The provincial governor, Dedi Mulyadi, ordered the closure of the quarry, and said that the authorities already knew that the company managing the site "did not comply with safety regulations for its employees", but that they could not stop its operation as it had a valid license until October of this year. "It is the responsibility of the mine administrator," the politician remarked in a video posted on their Instagram profile.Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the causes of the collapse. Accidents in mines are common in Indonesia due to the permissiveness of the authorities and the lack of safety measures.
