SANTO DOMINGO. — The Dominican College of Journalists (CDP), National District section, denounced this Sunday that a man identified as “El Cojo” once again pretended to be a journalist to commit criminal acts during an activity in which different colleagues participated.

According to the statement issued by the CDP, the individual, who has previously been arrested for similar acts, managed to infiltrate an event in which the treasurer of the CDP Distrito Nacional, Odil Beato, was participating, where he stole her purse. Subsequently, he used a debit card and spent thousands of pesos.

Among the transactions made is a purchase of 60 boxes of cigarettes at La Sirena, valued at RD$13,600, as well as another for an additional amount of RD$1,300.

"The Lame One" has been seen repeatedly participating in activities without being properly accredited, which has raised alarms among the members of the CDP.

Faced with this situation, the CDP Distrito Nacional demanded an immediate response from the authorities, and called for the reinforcement of security controls during its events. In addition, it called for firm consequences to be imposed to prevent this type of person from continuing to affect the integrity of the guild.
