At least nine dead in Israeli attacks in southern Gaza this Friday

Jerusalem.- At least nine people died this Friday in several Israeli attacks in the south of the Gaza Strip, according to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.

The agency, citing medical sources on the ground, said that at least four Gazans lost their lives in a bombing against a phone charging point in an area of tents for displaced people in the town of Jan Yunis.

The enclave's rescue teams also recovered the body of a person after a bombing in another part of the city.

Four more people died in an attack near an aid distribution area in Rafah, in the southern end of the Strip, according to Wafa.

This Friday, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the group supported by the United States and Israel to distribute aid in the besieged Palestinian enclave, said that its distribution centers would be closed again today until further notice.

"Please note that all aid distribution centers are closed. For your safety, we recommend avoiding them. The reopening date will be announced on this page," the group said in a message in Arabic on its Facebook account.

In the first eight days of operation of this new distribution model, proposed by Israel as the only way to prevent Hamas from benefiting from the distribution of aid, around a hundred Gazans have died, according to figures from local authorities, due to what several witnesses describe as Israeli fire against those who approached the foundation's distribution points.

Israel, which controls all access to the besieged enclave, has prevented independent entry of international press into Gaza since the beginning of the war, making it difficult to verify this type of incident.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health's count, more than 54,600 Palestinians have died since the Israeli offensive against the enclave began, following Hamas' attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
