Citizens value Passport transfer, but highlight possible traffic chaos it will generate

Santo Domingo. – Various reactions have been generated among citizens by the relocation of the General Directorate of Passports to a new headquarters, located on John F. Kennedy Avenue corner Doctor Defilló, in the Los Prados sector, a building that housed Teleantillas.

Although many positively value the change for the promise of improving service and reducing long lines, others express concern about the impact it could have on the transit of the area.

Neighbors in the area also fear that the increase in the influx of people will cause difficulties in parking, increase noise pollution, and limit mobility in an already congested area.

"I understand that it's more access for us, it's convenient, it's easier," said a man who identified himself as Harold, however, he highlighted that it would affect the large number of people who would circulate in the area.

In that same vein, the motorcyclists stationed outside the Francisco Gregorio Billini Metro Station expressed themselves, predicting that their economy will improve due to the dynamism this will bring to the area.

It should be noted that the relocation of the main headquarters of the General Directorate of Passports (DGP) to the former Teleantillas building was made official with the awarding of the rental contract to the Closed Investment Fund for Development Reservas I, owner of the property since 2023.

The building was constructed in 1982 with two floors and a basement, but it has undergone a remodeling with which a third floor was added on a steel beam structure.

The lease agreement with an option to purchase will have a duration of three years, at a cost of $5,927,164.83.
