The Public Ministry, through its Intellectual Property Unit, raided a commercial establishment located on Duarte Avenue in the National District, where it seized more than 3,800 counterfeit school items that improperly used the logo of a well-known brand.

During the operation, led by court prosecutor Bony Esther Suriel and auditor Lauridelissa Jiménez, 1,275 backpacks, 1,275 lunch boxes, and 1,275 pencil cases with counterfeit distinctive signs were seized in an establishment of foreign merchants.

The action was carried out within the framework of an investigation for violation of Law No. 20-00 on Industrial Property, explained the court prosecutor Jonathan Baró Gutiérrez, head of the Intellectual Property Unit.

"The consumer sees a logo of a recognized brand and trusts that they are acquiring an authentic product, but what they receive is a low-quality imitation and that not only constitutes a commercial scam, it also violates the right that each person has to receive truthful information about what they buy," said Bartó Gutiérrez.

He recalled that the unauthorized use of a brand's visual identity constitutes a clear infringement of its trademark rights and represents an act of unfair competition sanctioned by Law No. 20-00 on Industrial Property. "This type of practice not only harms the image and reputation of the brand, but also affects consumers, who are misled regarding the origin and quality of the products acquired."

The Public Ministry reiterated its commitment to the defense of legality and the protection of intellectual property rights.
