Puerto Rico prepares for possible approach of storm Erin

San Juan.- The Bureau for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration (NMEAD) reported that it is tracking the trajectory of Storm Erin in the Atlantic due to the increased probability that it will approach Puerto Rico with waves and rain. Commissioner Ángel Jiménez Colón asked the population to advance preparations, activate family plans, have an emergency backpack, and know evacuation routes in flood zones.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) indicated that Erin could become a hurricane on Thursday and estimated a closer approach to the northeast of the island during the weekend, with no direct impact forecast. The NMEAD maintains coordination with the National Weather Service (NWS), federal agencies, the Department of Public Safety (DSP), and municipal offices.

According to the SNM, a deterioration of maritime conditions is expected with waves of 10 to 12 feet when the system is located northeast of the territory on the weekend, in addition to an increase in showers on Saturday and Sunday. The DSP reported personnel and resources ready to respond in case of emergencies. The NHC warned that Erin could reach a major category in the coming days.
