INDOMET monitors tropical wave and warns that hot temperatures will continue

Santo Domingo. - According to the Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (INDOMET), the weather conditions do not present significant changes over a large part of the national geography. We will observe a concentration of dust from the Sahara, leading to a grayish sky and a high thermal sensation, with a low probability of significant rainfall, due to the influence of an anticyclonic circulation that dominates our forecast area.

However, in the afternoon and early evening hours, the east/northeast wind could transport cloud fields towards some sectors, causing scattered showers with possible thunderstorms in the northeast regions and the Central Mountain Range.

For tomorrow, Saturday, some passing showers will be present in sectors of: La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo and Hato Mayor, induced by the prevailing northeast wind in the morning hours. In the afternoon, an active tropical wave, with an 80% probability of cyclonic development, will be approaching the Caribbean area. We forecast that it will contribute some cloudy fields generating moderate showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts in scattered points of the Eastern Plain, Central Mountain Range, Cibao Valley and border points.

Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico or America:

Tropical wave near the Lesser Antilles Arc: A zone of showers and disorganized electrical storms associated with a tropical wave is observed, which maintains a medium probability of 50% of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours. In the longer term, in the next 7 days, the probability of formation increases to 80% (high). This area of showers is closely monitored.

Tropical wave to the west/southwest of the Cape Verde islands: A zone of showers and thunderstorms associated with another tropical wave is located several hundred kilometers west/southwest of the Cape Verde islands. The system shows some signs of organization, with a medium probability of 50% development in 48 hours, and a medium probability of 40% also for the next 7 days. Continuous monitoring of this phenomenon is maintained.

Other systems under surveillance: Hurricane Erin is located about 621 km east/northeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, with maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h and moving northeast at 35 km/h. A small low-pressure area located about 2,160 km southwest of the Azores generates showers and thunderstorms. This system has a low probability of 10% development in 48 hours and also in the next 7 days. Neither of these last two phenomena poses a danger to our forecast area due to their position and trajectory.

National District: scattered clouds and a warm feeling.

Santo Domingo North: few clouds and a warm sensation.

Santo Domingo Este: scarce clouds and a warm sensation.

Santo Domingo Oeste: isolated clouds and a warm sensation.

Temperatures: the minimum will be between 22 °C and 24 °C and the maximum between 33 °C and 35 °C.

Summary: Fair weather conditions over the country due to the effect of an anticyclone… Hot temperatures. Saharan dust… Several areas in the Atlantic associated with tropical waves and low pressures with possibilities of becoming a tropical cyclone are being monitored… Both coasts present normal waves.

Sunday, cloudy with showers and thunderstorms, especially in towns in the northeast and southeast regions in the morning hours. In the afternoon and early evening, there will be slight increases in cloudiness with downpours, electrical storms, and wind gusts, which will extend to locations in the northwest, north, Central Mountain Range, and the border area, due to the high humidity associated with the active tropical wave, located northeast of the country.

National District: Occasional cloud increases with showers, possible thunderstorms and wind gusts in the afternoon.

Santo Domingo: Occasional cloud increases with showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in the afternoon.
