Did Robinson kill Kirk for his opinions on gender identity?

Authorities are investigating whether Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the killing of political activist Charlie Kirk, believed the commentator's views on gender identity were "hateful" to people like his roommate, reports Axios. According to the media, six sources familiar with the matter stated that investigators believe Robinson had a romantic relationship with his roommate* who, according to previously reported by Brooke Singman, a Fox News reporter, was in the process of transitioning to a woman. Consequently, the alleged shooter's anger towards the conservative activist for his opinions on the matter could be key to establishing the motive for the attack. The report indicates that Robinson's roommate, who is being "extremely cooperative" with the authorities, was "horrified" by the murder when he spoke with investigators and shared electronic messages sent by the alleged shooter. "Did that happen? Oh my God, no!", Robinson's alleged partner reportedly said before providing all the chats with his roommate. The phone messages showed that a sender identified as 'Tyler' mentioned that, after the shooting, he had wrapped his rifle in a towel and had hidden it among some bushes near Utah Valley University, where the attack occurred, reported this Friday the state governor, Spencer Cox. 'Tyler' also wrote to his companion that the rifle would have to be recovered.

"Robinson's roommate knew a lot"

Media outlets have also recalled what Charlie Kirk was talking about just moments before being shot. Thus, the last question Charlie Kirk answered in his meeting with university students before being assassinated was: "Do you know how many transgender Americans have been the authors of mass shootings in the last 10 years?" The activist replied that "too many". Then, he was asked: "Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in the United States in the last 10 years?" Kirk replied: "Counting or not counting gang violence?", after which he was hit by the shot that killed him. "It's pretty clear that Robinson's roommate knew a lot and didn't say anything after the murder, so he's officially a person of interest now and is cooperating," said an official. "What we want to know is if anyone else had knowledge [of the shooting], before or after," he added. Kirk, who challenged progressive students to debate him under a tent that said "Prove Me Wrong", was an open opponent of gender-affirming surgeries in minors and of transgender athletes competing in women's sports, Axios reports.
  • Kirk was hit in the neck by a bullet last Wednesday during a question and answer session with students at Utah Valley University. The attacker shot from the roof of a nearby building. The FBI stated that it was a "selective attack".
  • This Friday, the arrest of the alleged killer was announced. It is Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah. According to local governor Spencer Cox, a relative of the suspect contacted a family friend after the shooting. This friend contacted the sheriff's office and told officers that Robinson had confessed or hinted that he committed the crime.
