People deprived of liberty will be trained in agricultural topics

Santo Domingo.- With the aim of developing agricultural training and production programs aimed at people deprived of their liberty in the country, the National Office of Support for Penitentiary Reform (ONAPREP) and the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) signed an inter-institutional collaboration agreement. Both institutions will join efforts to implement training programs on productive and agroforestry topics, as well as hydroponics, aquaculture, nurseries, fruit trees, poultry farming, and reforestation projects in different penitentiary centers of the country. Likewise, the agreement contemplates the participation of persons deprived of their liberty who are in the semi-liberty phase, who may join various supervised productive activities, thus contributing to their rehabilitation and social reintegration process.

“The agribusiness sector reaffirms its commitment to the social development of the country, supporting initiatives that promote technical training and the creation of opportunities for all Dominicans,” said the executive president of the JAD, Osmar C. Benítez.

The agreement establishes the creation of an Inter-institutional Commission composed of representatives from both entities, responsible for coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the programs and projects derived from this cooperation.
