Trump says negotiations with Iran could resume within two days

Washington .- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Tuesday that negotiations with Iran in Pakistan to end the war could resume in the next two days.

In a telephone interview with a special envoy from the newspaper New York Post in Islamabad, the Republican president recommended that the journalist remain in the Pakistani capital for the next few days. “You should stay there, really, because something could happen in the next two days, and we are more inclined to go there,” Trump said, who added: “It's more likely, you know why? Because the quarterback is doing an excellent job.” The American president was referring to Pakistani General Asim Munir, with whom he forged a close relationship last year during the conflict between Pakistan and India.

The American Vice President, JD Vance, led last Saturday the first round of negotiations with Iran in Islamabad, in what was the highest-level meeting between both countries since they broke relations due to the Islamic revolution of 1979.

After more than 20 hours of negotiations, both delegations left Pakistan without an agreement and Trump ordered the US Navy to block the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran did after the start of the war on February 28.
