The Ministry of Health will open this Friday 17 the call for applications for the medical residency contest

Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Public Health reported that the competition for medical residencies 2026 will be open from this Friday, April 17, until May 1, a period in which those interested can apply for one of the 1,400 available places nationwide.

Through its Medical Residences Division, the Ministry indicated that applicants must submit the corresponding documentation through the electronic platform https://psrm.msp.gob.do/#/home which was enabled for those purposes.

To participate, applicants for the positions must have passed the National Unique Medical Residency Exam (ENURM), which is administered by the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), with a minimum score of 60 points. The score obtained will be valid for two consecutive years, so the results corresponding to the year 2025 will be accepted. However, those who have taken the exam in 2026 can only use the most recent score. 

Requirements for Specialties

The process includes the registration of personal data information on the electronic platform. Among the required information are names and surnames, ID number, address, age, the university of graduation, and the date they studied the medical degree.

Similarly, they must detail the completion of the legal internship, indicating the start and end dates, as well as the exequatur number or proof of processing, and the medical registration number. The system will request that the specialty to which you are applying be detailed, as well as the hospitals selected to carry out the corresponding interviews. Likewise, applicants must be medical graduates from universities recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt) and authorized by the Executive Branch. In the case of graduates from foreign universities, they must validate their degree in accordance with the regulations in force in the Dominican Republic, they must reside in the country and meet the same requirements established for Dominican citizens. Similarly, they must complete the process by uploading to the digital platform the title and transcript certified by Mescyt, exequatur (or processing letter) and Certificate of No Criminal Record valid for one month, certification from the Dominican Medical College (CMD) valid for three months and up-to-date with payments, an updated and sealed medical certificate, ID card or passport and a recent 2x2 photo, and proof of payment of RD 1,500 for Dominican applicants and USD 1,500 for foreigners, to the MSP medical residencies account (Banco de Reservas) no. 010-252713-0. In addition, payment can be made in person or online, through the platform enabled for the application process. The National Council of Medical Residences (CNRM) establishes that the applicant must mandatorily attend three aptitude interviews with the selection committee of each hospital, which will have a value of 1-5 non-divisible points. Each applicant must bring a copy of their file to the hospital where they will be interviewed and make a non-refundable payment of 500 pesos to the Teaching Department of the Interview Hospital.

Each applicant may only apply for one specialty and, if selected, must comply with the provisions of the current regulations governing the practice of medicine in the country. Private institutions must grant residents the same salary they receive in the Public Health system.

Requirements for Subspecialties

As the requirements for the subspecialties stipulate that applicants must complete personal and academic information, including first and last names, ID number, address, age, graduating university, hospital where they completed the specialty, with the start and end dates, university that supports the specialty, exequatur number, medical registration, subspecialty they are applying for, as well as the hospitals selected to compete and conduct interviews. Regarding the required documents, applicants must attach the Doctor of Medicine degree certified by the Mescyt, specialist title or completion letter, exequatur, completion letter from the hospital where they completed the medical specialty including the grades per year of residency, duly signed by the corresponding authorities, an updated 2x2 photograph, a copy of the ID card or passport in case of being a foreigner, current certification of CMD membership valid for three months. Updated medical certificate sealed by a licensed physician, certificate of no criminal record (issued less than a month ago), proof of payment corresponding to the registration process (RD 1,500.00 for Dominicans and USD 1,500.00 for foreigners); published works may be included, with a maximum of two per category. The Ministry of Public Health indicates that no institution may publish positions other than those officially included in the competition document. Doctors who are winners of one of the positions must comply with the provisions of the law governing the practice of medicine in the country.
