Milei calls for extraordinary sessions in Congress to advance key reforms

Buenos Aires.- The government of Argentine President Javier Milei announced this Friday that it will convene extraordinary sessions from December 10 to 30 in Congress, with the aim of advancing with the reforms he promised for the second part of his administration, including modifications to labor, tax and criminal regimes.

"**Today, the President of the Nation will sign the decree convening the Congress of the Nation to extraordinary sessions from December 10 to 30**," announced this Friday the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, Manuel Adorni.

The agenda for the sessions held outside the ordinary parliamentary period will focus on sanctioning the 2026 budget, but also on the treatment of reforms that the Government considers fundamental for "the progress towards prosperity", as detailed by the minister.

On the one hand, it is proposed to "modernize" the labor regime, through the "elimination of rigidities" in the rules regarding hiring, dismissal, salary updates and other working conditions.

An attempt will also be made to move forward with a penal reform that, according to the Government in recent days, will seek to increase the length of sentences and ensure their effective enforcement, among other issues.

The Government will also promote the treatment of the laws of Fiscal Presumption of Innocence, which proposes a simplified regime for the declaration of income and assets, the "adaptation of the minimum budget regime for the preservation of glaciers and the periglacial environment" and a "national commitment to fiscal and monetary stability".

The announcement comes just days before the partial renewal of Congress, on December 10th, where Milei's bloc will be considerably strengthened in both chambers, due to the results of the October legislative elections and the transfer, during the following months, of parliamentarians from political forces allied to the ruling party's bench.
