“This seems like a Greek tragedy”: Iván Minaya's lawyer questions process in Senasa case

Santo Domingo. - Amidst the secrecy surrounding the Senasa case, lawyer Dr. Jaime Terrero went this Sunday to the Palace of Justice in Ciudad Nueva to visit his client, Dr. Iván Minaya, one of those detained in the investigation being carried out by the Public Ministry for an alleged administrative corruption scheme at the National Health Insurance (Senasa). Terrero confirmed that the detainee has health conditions that require attention and specific medications. "I am a doctor and I came to visit you today. Yesterday I tried to give you some medications for blood pressure and everything is fine, awaiting the knowledge of the coercive measure," he explained.

When questioned about the charges against his client, the lawyer assured that they have not yet been formally notified of the complete instance. "We do not know the request. Remember, gentlemen, that the code is divided into procedural phases, and the first phase that we are going to know tomorrow, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, is the request for a coercive measure. We are going to see what the Attorney General's Office or the Public Ministry has and we are going to present our budget," he indicated. According to Terrero, within the facilities of the Palace of Justice there are at least six or seven detainees, although he only had access to his client. "Up there they tell me that there are around six or seven, but I only visited my client," he stated. Finally, Terrero concluded his statements with a philosophical reflection, drawing a comparison with the Greek playwright Aeschylus: "Look, gentlemen, I am very addicted to reading philosophy and after I have seen these processes, Aeschylus came to mind. Aeschylus was a Greek playwright who, at the end of his life, died pursued by the science fiction monsters he created and he ended up in a mental asylum." So far, the Attorney General's Office maintains expectations regarding the formal presentation of the coercive measures, which could be known between tomorrow Monday and Wednesday, according to the defense's estimate.
