Ten arrested in an operation to dismantle a Comando Vermelho cell in Rio

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested ten people this Friday as part of an operation to dismantle the main armed, logistical, and financial core of the criminal group Comando Vermelho in a community in the north zone of the state.

According to a statement from security forces, the operation, called Final Triumph, is the result of months of investigation that allowed the identification of 36 criminals, including members of the well-known "Tropa do Cesar", a group accused of carrying weapons, intimidating residents, organizing attacks, and ensuring territorial control of the region.

During the preliminary phase of the operation, the gang members and their specific roles were identified, including operational leaders, traffic managers, arms distributors, and those responsible for collection and financial movement, while it was verified that the Comando Vermelho maintained one of its main armed wings in the region.

Also, the police managed to demonstrate that the financial core of the gang made constant transfers and movements of money to sustain local trafficking, supply the arsenal, and finance illicit activities.

The agents seek to fulfill this Friday 108 judicial orders, which include 36 preventive detention orders and 72 search and seizure orders.

The Comando Vermelho, one of the most important criminal groups in Brazil, was born in the prisons of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s and currently maintains tentacles in most states of the country and in some neighboring countries.

In October, a mega-operation against this group carried out in the favela complexes of Penha and Alemão, in Rio de Janeiro, ended with 122 deaths, including five police officers, and went down in history as the deadliest police operation so far in Brazil.
