Santo Domingo.- A group of community members from the El Aguacate sector of the municipal district of La Cuaba, defended this Friday the installation of a recycling plant by the company Oakhouse, stating that unlike what the part of the community that is against it claims, this project will not affect the environment. Despite concerns expressed by some community members, who believe it is a landfill, proponents of the recycling plant assure that this initiative will generate employment and benefit the locality.

With documents in hand, they maintain that the initiative has the approval of Mayor Carlos Montaño and the Ministry of Environment, sufficient reasons for them to proceed with the installation. In his speech, one of the leaders of this demonstration held at the headquarters of the Dominican College of Journalists (CDP), Ramón Tejeda Correa, emphasizes that the recycling plant will be a well-organized and environmentally friendly facility, designed not to harm the local ecology. "We want peace and harmony for our community. This project will not only create jobs, but will also contribute to the sustainable development of the El Aguacate community," stated Tejeda Correa. "This is not a landfill, it's a recycling plant that represents development for our community and already has the backing of the authorities and the community," expressed another of the defenders. It is recalled that community and religious organizations and municipal authorities declared Minister of the Environment, Paíno Henríquez, "persona non grata" for supporting this project, considering that the treatment plant would affect at least four aquifers in the area.
